Standing strong against the gathering storm

Bowerman's Nose on Dartmoor, South Devon is a frequently photographed well known local landmark steeped in legend. The story goes that the rock is the mortified remains of a hunter who accidentally disturbed a coven of witches whilst out hunting on the moor one evening. The next day the witches turned the hunter to stone. It is said that the rocks laying around the nearby Hound Tor are the hunter's dogs which the witches also turned to stone.

It is undeniable that the eroded granite pile does resemble a human figure wearing a hat, and whether the legend is true or not it will always remain an intriguing feature of the moor.
